Why Little Jen Vomits after Nursing

Just last night, Little Jen walked into the dining area to look for me in his walker and laughed so happily when he saw me peeping through the kitchen door. He slept well that night.

The next morning, he woke up as usual, took his bath and then, drank his milk (expressed breast milk). The milk he drank was pumped that morning itself while he was taking his bath. So, the milk was fresh from the farm. After drinking, he played as usual with his teething toys. Suddenly, while I was working in the living room upstairs, I heard a loud splash of liquid onto the floor. There was Little Jen in my sister-in-law's arms and there was semi-digested milk all over her and Little Jen.

By about 12.30pm, Little Jen took about 1 tablespoon of cereal as usual and then by about 1.30pm, he had his milk. But then, awhile after that he vomited everything again.

This repeated after I nursed him at about 3-4pm and then by 6pm, he was hungry again. I fed him and after the next round of feeding at about 8pm, he dozed off. We were at the clinic by then, waiting for the Doctor. He woke up soon after and vomited again at the clinic. He seemed to vomit more than what he had drank/eaten.

Finally when it was our turn to see the Doctor, he checked Little Jen's temperature again. Earlier his temperature was about 37.7 deg C and now it was already 38.3 deg C. No one in the family including me was having any fever or was vomiting. Doctor was suspecting that the fever might be due to the fact that he was sprouting new tooth. However, further examination showed that Little Jen had a throat infection which led to his fever. Since he vomited so much, his tummy was also very gassy causing him to vomit further.

Doctor gave salt for him to drink with about 2-3 oz of water and recommended to let him have milk half an hour after the drink. He also gave Little Jen a small bottle of what he called "bactericidal" for Little Jen's throat infection. Of course, there was the fever and cough syrup for him too.

Oh ya, Doctor also said to continue breastfeeding him since breast milk would help him recovr much faster and would be much easier on his tummy.

Little Jen is now sleeping soundly and it seems like his fever is much better already. Poor Little Jen, hopefully this will only make him a stronger boy.. :)
