KL - Jusco, Mid Valley Nursing Room

If I recall correctly, there were Nursing Rooms located on both the 2nd and 1st Floor of Jusco in Mid Valley Megamall. I went to the 2nd Floor when Little Jen started to fuss for milk. They renovated the toilet and the Nursing Room there was gone. It is okay, I thought since there was supposed to be another in the 1st Floor where the Baby Department was.

Rushed to the 1st Floor and the toilet was renovated too. Very pretty indeed.. BUT, the 2 Nursing Rooms were occupied. AND, the sofa that used to be at the powder room was also gone! I have my Nursing Cover with me but knowing Little Jen a little too well, he would kick and pull it so that he could see better and breathe better too. So, I had to settle for nursing in one of the toilet cubicles. Good thing, since the toilet was new, it was clean and the 'scent'was tolerable. However, I had to stand while nursing him. It was heavy and not comfortable at all.

I then pulled Litttle Jen away and of course, he shouted for more and in anger. Went again to the Nursing Rooms and they were still occupied. I saw a lady feeding a baby who was in a trolley. Hmm, obviously she was not breastfeeding. I felt a little angry since the Mummy occupied the room which was meant for breastfeeding cause we obviously needed more privacy. I asked to 'tumpang' and there I went, seated in a corner to nurse Little Jen. Another lady came in and tried to breastfeed her baby too. The baby started crying. Little Jen lost focus and did not want to nurse anymore. So, we both went away to find Daddy outside.

Bandar Tasik Selatan, Selangor - Terminal Bersepadu Selatan Nursing Room

Surprise surprise, there are nursing rooms located in this newly built transport complex. They are located near the entrance to the Female toilets. Of course, being located near the toilet is not the best thing, but at least this is way better than being located in the toilet itself. You may read my earlier blogs on nursing rooms and you will be surprised to find one of the nursing room is pointing to one of the toilet cubicles.

The nursing room is labeled outside as the Diaper Change Room and inside, you will see a space for diaper changing. In the room, there is another room with a lockable door and a sink. That is the Nursing Room. On the right of the room, there are a set of sofa and table for one. On the left, there is the sink.

The room is pretty well-maintained and since it is a new complex, no damage seen, no wear and tear. Comfortable enough for a couple of Mummy and Baby. The wall is beautifully decorated with cute bears and giraffes motif. I am sure Mummies who are shy like me will appreciate the Nursing Room facility.

This is a great improvement for Malaysia! Hope more areas and buildings are made baby-friendly or more accurately breastfeeding-friendly. Kudos!

Bukit Tinggi & Bukit Raja, Klang - Jusco Nursing Room

Earlier on I had no idea that the older Jusco would be equipped with Nursing Rooms and I went all the way to the Bukit Tinggi Jusco whenever I had to stop by for a session. This was practised though I was really nearby Bukit Raja Jusco and Bukit Tinggi Jusco was about 30 minutes away. One day when I had a little more time and I was nearby Bukit Raja Jusco, I decided to try my luck and look for a nursing room there.

I was pleased enough to find a nursing room with facilities as good as the newer Jusco shopping complexes. It may be a little older but it is enough for a nursing working mummy on the go. There are a few rooms with curtains for privacy as usual. Each room is equipped with comfortable sofa and a small table. No electric point and so, will have to settle for manual pumping. Need to train that muscle anyway so that I can carry Little Jen a little longer and little more often.

Hot water is provided outside the nursing rooms area. The diaper changing tables are also located outside the nursing rooms.

Thumbs up for Jusco for being baby-friendly and also of course nursing working mummy friendly.

Ayer Keroh, Melaka - Jusco Nursing Room

The Nursing Room in Ayer Keroh Jusco might be a little less well planned in terms of the layout as it is an 'antique' in Melaka. The Nursing Room is located on the way to the toilet on the upper floor and is opposite a Pos Malaysia center.

Upon entering the area, on your right, you will see a water thermos with hot drinking water and water sinks for washing. Next to the wash basins, there were about 4 diaper changing stations. Then, here comes the interesting part. On the left side, there was long drape of curtain with a long cushioned bench inside for nursing. However, I guess the curtain was not long enough so they put a big board there so that passers-by would not be able to see what was happening from under the curtains.

I have been to worse Nursing Rooms, so, this is considered okay.

KL - Isetan, Mid Valley Nursing Room

Just last week a long lost friend of mine invited us out for dinner at Mid Valley. Right before our dinner, Little Jen and I had a good nursing session in Jusco, Mid Valley. As the area was more crowded, I had about 4 Mummies peeping into the Nursing Room to check if it was occupied. Luckily I had my Nursing Cover on and was facing inside while nursing Little Jen.

My Hubby and I almost had our eyes bulging out when my friend suggested to have dinner at The Gardens instead. It was considered to be on a higher end and we were totally unfamiliar with the dining areas available. But we went anyway since it might be great to experience something new. The menu was almost alien to me but interestingly, the food were great - Alexis.

Towards the end of our dinner, Little Jen became cranky and started singing his own tunes loudly. Checked our watches and yes, it was time for Little Jen's early supper. Good to have a friend familiar with The Gardens with us. She suggested us to go to the Nursing Room in Isetan on the 2nd floor where the Kiddies' Section was.

I was impressed with the simplicity of the Nursing Room, totally comfortable to the eyes and for both of us, Me and Little Jen. There were nice curtains and inside there was a table and an arm chair. We were the only family there and the other 2 Nursing Area were unoccupied. Right outside the Nursing Room, it was the Isetan departmental store and some lady staffs were hanging around there. It felt safe and did not feel eerie at all. The music was soft and since the area was almost customer-free, it was calm and quiet.

Outside the Nursing Area, there were taps for hot and cold water and also a few diaper changing stations. I would certainly visit the Nursing Room again since it should be less packed than the Nursing Room in Jusco, Mid Valley and also cause the Nursing Room at Isetan was better equipped.

Kuala Lumpur - Berjaya Times Square Nursing Room

We were early at Berjaya Times Square on the Saturday a fortnight ago so that we did not have to queue up too long at Digi. We wanted to change our numbers from postpaid to a prepaid. Only about 4 people ahead of us and we still had to wait for quite long before it was our turn. Right after waiting for an hour plus, Little Jen was already crying out for milk. I bought my brunch cause I was really hungry before rushing off to search for a Baby Room.

The nearest Baby Room was on the 3rd Floor. Following the signboards, they led us to the Baby Room next to the Gents Toilet. This is the first time a Baby Room is next to the Gents Toilet instead of the Ladies Toilet.

I guessed the signboards were misleading and caused an elderly auntie to walk into the Baby Room in search for the Ladies Toilet. And worse, her grown up son then came in after her to lead her to the right place. Luckily, I had done my nursing. It was really unpleasant as there was no curtains or doors to allow Mummies to have some privacy.

Upon stepping into the Baby Room, there was a bench on the right which was maybe meant for nursing or waiting Hubbies. Then, there was a Rubbermaid diaper changing station and a sink. Interestingly, there were  2 small toilets for Little Toddlers in a small room without doors. Not much privacy and imagine 2 Mummies cramping in the room to get their Little Toddlers to pee or poop... 

Conclusion, it was a Baby Care room and nothing close to being a Nursing Room.. so, not a really baby-friendly mall unless you don't mind strangers walking in while you are in the midst of a nursing session..

Genting Highlands, Pahang - First World Hotel Nursing Room

We checked out of the First World Hotel room at about 11am and went for lunch. The rest of our family members went to the Casino again to try their luck after filling up their tummies. Little Jen and I were of course lingering around the resort together with Hubby.

Very soon, Little Jen was showing signs of hunger again. Since we checked out already, I had to look for a baby room or something like that to nurse him. We went to the toilet area in front of the Starbuck cafe but the Auntie Cleaner told us that there were no chairs in the Baby Room. She kindly told us that there was another Baby Room at the toilet on the opposite end of the Hotel Lobby. So, we rushed to the other side hoping that we would be able to find a nice and cosy Baby Room there.

Guess what? The "Baby Room" was actually in the Ladies Toilet itself and it is ONE OF THE CUBICLES! Or to be more accurate, 2 of the cubicles made into a "Baby Room"! Well, since we had no other better idea than to do the nursing in the designated area in the Toilet, we did it. Little Jen was so distracted by the sounds of doors opening and closing and then, there was also a lot of interesting flushing sound.. best of all was the smell of the toilet.

In the cubicle, there was a small toilet bowl designed for Little Toddlers opposite the bench where Mothers were supposed to sit and nurse their Little Ones. On the other corner of the cubicle was a Rubbermaid diaper changing station. Hmm... So far, my worst experience!

Nursing Room Occupied?

My Little Jen started crying and ops, it was time for milk. So, we quickly finished our snacks and went straight to Jusco to use the nursing room. Unfortunately, all 3 nursing rooms were occupied. Not only that, some mothers were already queueing up for their turns outside the rooms when I reached.

So, knowing that nursing would take some time, I did not want to join in the queue. I went to my Hubby and asked him my Nursing Apron or some called it Nursing Cover.

Luckily there were come comfortable sofas in the Powder Room area and I utilized the space for nursing my Little Jen with my Nursing Apron. Since Little Jen did not have to wait long, he was not too cranky and went straight to business. Soon after that, he dozed off.

Well, I did hear other babies crying outside as their Mummies were waiting to use the Nursing Rooms and there was also one that cried for as long as I nursed and till when I was leaving the Powder Room, the poor little girl was still crying. Good to have a Nursing Apron in hand :)

Kepong, KL - Jusco Kepong Nursing Room

I have always gone to The Curve although I was in Kepong to use the Nursing Room there. However, last month when Little Jen was only 4 1/2 mths old, I found that my milk supply was dwindling. Therefore, I could not afford to delay my pumping session for another 15 minutes just because I wanted to pump in comfort. I turned into Jusco Kepong, hoping that there would be a nice Nursing Room available.

My worry was because the old Jusco complex did not seem to be as well equipped as the new ones.

I found the Nursing Room on the 2nd floor of the complex and upon reaching the Nursing Room, I was already feeling dissapointed with my decision to go to Jusco instead of The Curve. There are 2 small toilets meant for Little Kids and outside the toilet area, there are a few tables for diaper changing.

Not giving up, I went further into the room and finally, I found 4 Nursing Rooms with curtains, sofas and tables. The fact that there were 4 nursing rooms were actually much better than what I had expected. However, as usual, none of the rooms had electric sockets for my electric pump. Well, since it was already better than what I expected, I pumped willingly, taking it as part of a workout for my hands.

After pumping, I was wondering if I could make it in time back home for the next pumping session. So, I went around looking for hot water. Right outside the Nursing Rooms, there were only normal water taps for washing hands. Thinking that I could not sterilise my pump, I packed my stuff and walked out of the room when I realised, outside the small toilets, there were taps with hot and cold water!

Oh..nevermind already, I had already packed my stuff, I was too lazy to take them out again and wash and then, sterilise.. so, thank you, Jusco Kepong, I will definitely be back next time!

Mutiara Damansara, Selangor - The Curve Nursing Room

Before going out for work on my first few days after my maternity leave, I was worried that I might not be able to pump comfortably and bring milk back for my Little Jen.

I am working in the Sales line and it is not like I will always be at the same area whenever I go out for Customer Visits. So, in a way, it is nice that I have sort of a flexi-schedule but on the other hand, it is very cumbersome as I will have to always be on a look-out for Nursing Rooms.

For the first few Customer Visits, I had Customer Visits around the Sungai Buloh and Kepong area. I searched online and found out that The Curve has a Nursing Room and so, there I went during lunch break for pumping.

Interesting enough, the room was very nicely decorated with a purple coloured theme. The Nursing Room is on the 2nd floor of The Curve where most of the shops for Babies and Mummies were. So, you will find a lot of families around the area and there is also a row of sofa for waiting Daddies.

Inside, unfortunately there was no hot water faciility for sterilizing the equipments/milk-making. However, not a problem for me since I have sterilised my equipments in the morning before leaving for work.

There are 2 small cubicles with pretty curtains and small doors for privacy. One is with electric socket and the other does not have any. So, I chose the one with electric socket most of the time, when it was available, since I wanted to use my electric breast pump.

On weekends, the rooms are usually occupied and we have to wait for our turn.

Just right outside the room, there is sort of a Security booth with some cleaning staffs. It is very comforting to know that you have your safety/privacy guarded when you nurse/pump. And of course, the comfortable sofas outside that attracts Daddies to be on guard there also help a lot. Oh, there is also a button for you to press in case of Emergency in the Nursing cubicles.. Nice :)

Melaka - Mahkota Parade Nursing Room

I was least expecting Mahkota Parade to have a nursing room since it is an old complex of more than 10 years. Little Jen was starting to cry for milk already and I was telling Hubby that we had to leave already since I had to nurse him.

Upon reaching the elevator, I saw a sign showing a baby and bottle. The discovery immediately lighted me up. The room is located on the 2nd floor and near to the Thai Kuang book store. Since there was a sign that only Mummies are allowed, Hubby went away to do some window shopping. The room is equipped with a button for you to press when you want to open and close the door and inside, there are about 3 rooms for nursing. That was the first time I saw nursing rooms with actual doors.

I like the room's simplicity. The walls are painted all white and there is even a mirror in the room for I-Don't-Know-What. The lack of decoration is a plus point cause Little Jen went straight to nursing and got it done without wasting time looking around. He had become more easily distracted since last month (4 months old) by colours, change of lighting in the surroundings, sounds, etc..

Outside, there are also some toys for kids to play with. There was a Mummy with her Kids playing in the room. Little Jen was laughing at the voice of her little boy shouting in excitement. It was a delightful experience.
