I am more subjective on this matter.

If babies are breastfed in the correct manner, the breast should not in anyway obstruct their nose. This is basic knowledge and a skill to be learned by breastfeeding mummies. During breastfeeding, mummies will generally feel sleepy due to the release of a sleep-inducing hormine for both mummies and babies. Hence, I still believe that it is good to take precaution and ensure that the baby is okay from time to time in a breastfeeding session. A session may last for even as long as half an hour to an hour and mummies especially in the first 2 months will be really exahusted as well due to childbirth, loss of blood and the demanding round the clock nursing schedule.

The tragedy occurred on a Kuwait-bound United Airlines jet, which was diverted to London's Heathrow. A mother accidentally smothered her baby daughter to death on a flight after she fell asleep while breastfeeding. The four-week-old girl was travelling with her Egyptian mother from Washington DC to Kuwait when the tragedy occurred on November 24. Crew on the United Airlines jet were alerted by the 29-year-old mother's screams. A doctor travelling on the plane tried unsuccessfully to revive the baby.

The plane, which was over the Atlantic at 33,000ft, was diverted to London's Heathrow airport just before 10am, where police boarded. The baby girl was rushed to Hillingdon Hospital, a spokesman told the Daily Mail. However she was pronounced dead on arrival at 10.35am. Three days later a post-mortem was performed on her at the Great Ormond St Hospital in London.

Police are still awaiting the results of that. In the meantime, the spokesman said, the death is being treated as 'unexplained'. No arrests have been made in the tragic incident.

A police source told The Sun: 'This appears to be a tragic accident. The girl comes from a loving family. 'Her mum was going to Kuwait to show her to relatives.' 

It is not known if the woman was travelling with anyone other than her child.

Officers from Scotland Yard's Child Abuse Investigation Team are now dealing with the incident.

In 2004,  Briton Lisa Briggs smothered her baby as they slept less than three years after losing another child to a similar tragedy.

Miss Briggs, 23, fell asleep while feeding five-week-old Keitha and woke in the morning to find her lifeless by her side.

Miss Briggs had lost her four-week-old daughter Cerese in identical circumstances.
However the Royal College of Midwives said in 2006 there are some benefits for breastfeeding mothers to share a bed with their babies, and a blanket message advising them not to do it could be counter-productive.

Melanie Every, a regional manager for the Royal College, said: 'We know that there are many, many cultures and many, many women who will continue to share beds with their babies, even when they are advised not to do it. 'Now, knowing that, it's important to give them advice on the safest possible way of doing it, rather than just saying don't do it.'

Babies can die of suffocation when their airways are obstructed by lying against their mother - a phenomenon known as 'overlying'.

Infant Dies After Choking on Own Vomit

KUALA LUMPUR: A six-month-old baby girl died after she choked on her own vomit at her home in Bukit Angkasa.

Brickfields Deputy OCPD Supt Aidah Abdul Hamid said police were alerted after the infant’s elderly baby­sitter brought her in to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre around 1.30pm on Friday.

“Rania Batrisya suffocated after she regurgitated her food and the babysitter rushed her to the hospital. The infant died around 4.30pm on Saturday,” she said, adding that police had classified the case as sudden death.

Supt Aidah also said that a post-mortem carried out yesterday confirmed that the infant died of asphyxia and ruled out foul play.

When met at the mortuary, the infant’s grandmother, Ramlah Baba, 63, said she last saw Rania alive on Saturday.

“After Rania was born, my daughter Radiana Rais, 37, only trusted me to take care of her,” she said.
Ramlah said she stopped taking care of Rania about a month ago as she had to go back to Malacca to take care of a sick relative.

I am sure the family feels absolute regret over the whole incident, a good-will to bring the little girl out for a visit turned out tragedic for the whole family. never shall I leave my Little Jen in the car even when it is not scorching hot.

TUMPAT: In a rush to attend a cousin's funeral, a man forgot about his three-year-old daughter who was sleeping in the car under the blazing sun about 500m away from the cemetery at Kampung Morak near here.
By the time he remembered about her more than an hour later, the girl had already suffered serious heatstroke.

In the 11.45am incident, Nor Izyan Natasya Ishak died of severe heatstroke while being rushed to a nearby clinic.

Her father Ishak Salleh said he was in such a hurry to attend the funeral yesterday that the moment he arrived at the cemetery, he just parked his car, turned off the engine and locked the vehicle.

“I totally forgot that my daughter was sleeping in the back seat.

“After some time, I remembered about her but it was too late,” he said when met here.

Ishak said the moment he remembered that Nor Izyan Natasya was in the car, he rushed to her aid together with several villagers.

He said at that time his daughter was crying and her baju kurung was soaked with sweat.

“We tried to revive her but she was too weak. She died while on the way to the clinic in Wakaf Baru.

“I never expected that immediately after attending a relative's funeral, I will be attending my own daughter's funeral,” the distraught father said.

Ishak, who is the chief of security at the Kota Baru UiTM, said he and his daughter left their house in Kampung Belukar, Machang at 9am to attend the funeral.

He said Nor Izyan Natasya, who was so excited to visit her aunt at Kampung Laut here, had worn her best baju kurung for the trip.

He said his wife did not follow him on the trip as she had to look after their five other children.
District OCPD Superintendent Khalid Munap confirmed the incident and said it had been classified as sudden death.

He said police have also ruled out foul play in the case.

Baby in coma after being hurled on to bed

A nine-month-old baby is in a coma due to brain haemorrhaging after being hurled on to the bed by the father for crying incessantly at their home in Jasin, Malacca, last Sunday.

Berita Harian reported that the matter was being investigated by the police.

It quoted Malacca Crime Investigation Department chief Asst Comm Raja Shahrom Raja Abdullah as saying that the victim became unconscious after the incident and the police were looking for the father, who is in his 30s, for questioning.

The baby was rushed to Malacca Hospital by the father after the toddler became unconscious and a swell developed on the head.

Doctors suspected that the baby had been abused and lodged a report at the hospital’s police beat.
The baby has been referred to Hospital Kuala Lumpur after falling into a coma due to brain haemorrhaging.

The baby’s condition is listed as critical and is now warded at the Intensive Care Unit in the hospital.

Another news in Singapore where a a baby conceived through in vitro fertilisation (IVF) at a private hospital in Singapore has different DNA to the supposed father, a lawyer representing the clients said Wednesday.

The couple made the shocking discovery after they were told that the baby's blood type was B while they were groups O and A, a scientific impossibility if they were the two biological parents.

"They discovered it a few days after the birth of the baby. They were informed by the paediatrician that the baby's blood group is B," he said. "So they were a bit surprised because the mother is O and the father is A. Biologically it's not possible when you have such a combination."

The couple, a Chinese Singaporean woman and a Caucasian man whose identities the lawyer kept confidential, also started to notice the baby has a distinctly different complexion.

A DNA test carried out last month in a Hong Kong laboratory at the couple's request showed the baby, who was born on October 1 in an emergency caesarean, had the mother's DNA but not the official father's, Palaniappan said. The couple are waiting for the results of another DNA test in Singapore by the Health Sciences Authority, a statutory board under the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Based the latest heard on radio this morning, the couple may not want to keep the baby. 10 months in the womb meant nothing to them?
